Asthma Resources and Advocacy

The causes of asthma are unknown, although enviornmental exposures to pollution, second hand smoke, mold, and dust mites may contribute to development of the disease. It also tends to run in families. Asthma results in difficulty breathing with tightness in the chest, wheezing, and coughing - especially at night. Exposure to "triggers" such as pets, mold, smoke, and pollution can cause an asthma attack. Asthma is controlled with medications such as pills or inhalers.
